Pathologist describes injuries that killed shooting victim

A 29-year-old murder victim died in the operating room, a jury heard yesterday.
Dr. Caryn Sands said that Anthony Mather was pronounced dead in the operating theater at Princess Margaret Hospital on January 22, 2017.

Richard Charlton is accused of abetting Mather’s killer, who remains at large.
Charlton, who is on remand, has denied the charge of abetment to murder at his trial before Justice Carolita Bethel.
According to Sands, Mather died from a gunshot wound to the back and right foot.
The bullets ripped through vital organs, resulting in bleeding in the chest and abdominal cavity and spillage of bowel contents.

Sands said she saw evidence of suture repairs to some of the injuries.
Mather was shot around 7:10 p.m. outside his family’s home in White’s Addition.
Police collected four spent 9mm casings from the scene.
Sonia Timothy represents Charlton and Basil Cumberbatch and Denard Brown appear for the Office of the DPP.
