Dear Editor,

My young men and women, do you not see what is happening? You are being used to prove that we are a violent and destructive people worthy of no care. Is that what you want?

As you look in the mirror what do you see? Do you see a strong black man who turns a gun upon his brother and sister to steal what you have not worked for, to kill your brother or sister? Is that strength or cowardice?

Not one of you have stood and waited and said I have done this thing and I am ready to take my punishment. You run knowing that what you have done is wrong.

You are being used like a prostitute in exchange for some momentary satisfaction or a few dollars. You are destroying families, communities and your legacy.

Is that what you want? Is that what you need to make you feel manly? Does integrity and self-worth, mean nothing to you? Does the child who now sits aching for his father or mother to return mean nothing to you?

Do you not have a heart to feel that what you are doing is not brave? Are you broken?

Did someone hurt you and you do not understand how to control or manage your emotions? Does it take only the wrong word from another to challenge your manhood and control you? Are you simply brainwashed into thinking that the lifestyle you see on television is real? Can you not think for yourself? Can you not choose to do good even if you are standing alone?

Money does not fall from the sky. You have to work for it. Life is not perfect. You will have some disappointments. Get over it! You are not two years old.

No one is responsible for making your life comfortable. Stand up! Be a man or woman of integrity. Use your gifts and stop terrorizing your communities. You are feeding a system that already labels you, and you are giving away your control by living up to the negativity. Do better!
