‘Miss Florida’ acquitted

Former Internet sensation Handerea Rolle was yesterday acquitted of a drug possession with intent to supply charge.

Rolle, who gained Internet fame following a viral video of a vacation to Florida, was arrested on February 13, 2018, while visiting a home on Smith’s Lane. Rolle was there to collect money from Ilano Noel for their daughter.

Noel pleaded guilty on arraignment last year and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The prosecution proceeded against Rolle and Kenneth Moncur, the owner of the home.

Moncur, who admitted that he allowed Noel to sell drugs from his home, was convicted yesterday and sentenced to six months in prison.

Police had to force their way into the home after the occupants refused to open the door.

When police entered, they caught Noel flushing marijuana down the toilet. In addition to the drugs in the bathroom, 86 packages of marijuana were found inside a bag in the hallway.

The drugs weighed close to two pounds.

Rolle and Moncur were found hiding in separate rooms.

Neither Rolle nor Moncur presented a defense in the case.

Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain said the house was owned by Moncur, and, on the evidence, he allowed Noel to deal or seal drugs from there.

Swain said that the prosecution had proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Moncur had knowledge, custody and control of the drugs.

As for Rolle, Swain said that she was no doubt present and might have seen the drugs. While this was “suspicious”, Swain said the evidence against her did not meet the required threshold.

She added, “I would have convicted, had it not been for this simple fact.”
