Haitian man accused of punching woman denied bail

A Haitian man accused of injuring a woman during a domestic dispute was yesterday denied bail.

Charite Vil, 55, of Tobago Crest, appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on a single charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutors allege that he punched the woman in her face, breaking bones in the eye orbit during a fight at his home on April 14.

Vil pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and returns to court on May 13 for trial.

Vil will have to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
