Marine shot and killed at Government House

A member of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) was shot and killed at Government House early this morning, police said.

The incident happened in the guard room shortly after 3 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, however Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said investigators are questioning a “person of interest”.

Ferguson said as information becomes available, the media will be informed.

The RBDF is also expected to release a statement later today.

The officer was one of two people killed this weekend.

Police said an American man was shot multiple times while at his home in Bimini.

He was taken to a nearby clinic but later died.

Police are appealing to people with information on this shooting to contact authorities at 350-3107 or the nearest police station.
