Shanique Thurston to drop new single
Shanique Thurston is expected to release her first single in six years, entitled “Jesus”, on Friday.
The new single, which she wrote and which was produced by Vincent “V-Mac” McDonald, is the lead song from her upcoming album that will be released in the fall.
“I wrote this song while preparing for the grand finale of 242 Untapped in 2012,” said the gospel artist, Marlin Award and 242 Untapped season one winner. “I was in prayer seeking God for direction [as to] what to minister, and driving home from work I began to meditate and ‘Jesus’ was the song that God gave me.”
After winning the title, Thurston said she took time to find herself as she wanted to find herself in the gospel community.
“I had to grow and mature not just as an artist, but spiritually as well. I believe God prepared me for this moment and that moment is now,” she said.
Thurston attends Life Changers Ministries International, where she serves as leader in the music department.
She said making music is where she finds comfort and relief. She is a worshipper at heart, and hopes to fulfill God’s will for her life through her ministry in music.
Thurston’s passion for singing developed over the years and she cultivated her gift by singing in church and in school choirs. She also entered numerous talent search competitions and pageants, displaying her gift. These opportunities allowed her to travel across the United States to perform. She embraced the international platform, being a recipient to travel to New York to the Apollo to perform before hundreds. She has also shared the stage with BeBe Winans, Donnie McClurkin and Tasha Cobbs.
