A drug courier was yesterday fined $10,000 in order to avoid spending two years in prison.
Police arrested Sergio Etman, 25, of Suriname, at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA), on May 5 after they found a kilo of cocaine in his luggage.
Etman was supposed to deliver the drugs to an unnamed party, but law enforcement seized the cocaine shortly after he arrived at LPIA on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica.
Police selected Etman for a search and found eight packages of cocaine inside his suitcase.
Etman pleaded guilty to charges of drug possession with intent to supply and importation of dangerous drugs with intent to supply when he appeared before Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.
