The Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) has confirmed that the national amateur championships will be held this week at various golf courses in and around New Providence.
The four-day event will get underway on Thursday and run through Sunday. The four courses that will be utilized are the Lyford Cay Golf Course, the Albany Golf Course, the Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar and the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island. Royal Fidelity has once again come onboard as the title sponsor of the nationals which will start at Lyford Cay and conclude at Ocean Club.
The national amateur championships is a gross event to determine the best amateur golfers in the country. The male and female players with the best scores will be declared the national champions, but there will also be divisional winners for male and female players.
Players will also compete for the President’s Cup which will be determined through a net event played over the last two days of competition. The cup will be awarded to the golfer, male or female, with the best net score.
Two-time defending champion in the men’s division Richard Gibson Jr. will be back on the greens, going after a third consecutive title. The defending champion in the women’s division, Ashley Michel, will also be back, looking to defend her title. Young golfer Nyah Singh will be vying for a third consecutive President’s Cup title.
