Small fire prompts Hilton evacuation
The British Colonial Hilton hotel had to be evacuated yesterday after a fire erupted in the hotel’s elevator shaft, according to officials.
“We can confirm there was an isolated incident involving a small fire in the hotel’s elevator shaft, caused by improvement work being conducted in the elevator,” according to a statement from the hotel.
“The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire department immediately contacted.
“All guests and team members are safe. As a precautionary measure, guests and team members were evacuated and have since been welcomed back to the hotel.
“Our priority is the well-being, safety and security of our guests, and we continue to make every effort to ensure that all practices and standards are in line with strict safety and security regulations.”
The statement noted that the hotel did not sustain any damage and that it remains open and fully operational.
