Sex offender back behind bars
A recently released sex offender is back behind bars after he was accused of groping a teenager downtown.
Sidney Cooper, 42, of Exuma Street, the Grove, was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services after being charged with indecent assault and causing harm.
Prosecutors allege that Cooper squeezed the butt cheeks of an 18-year-old on June 12 and shoved her to the ground, causing injuries to her face and knees.
Cooper pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney and was denied bail.
Cooper returns to court on July 24 for trial.
In March 2016, Cooper was sentenced to three years in prison for fondling a teen at a water pump.
Cooper was convicted in December of that year of touching a policewoman’s private parts while at court for the assault of the young girl at the water pump. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Cooper, who has been diagnosed with frotteurism — the practice of achieving sexual stimulation or orgasm by touching and rubbing against a person without the person’s consent and usually in a public place — was ordered to receive treatment for the condition.
