Man charged with reggae star’s murder

A man accused of the murder of popular reggae star Davon “MDeez” Knight was on Wednesday remanded to prison.

Shamano Cooper, 32, of Sandilands Village Road, made an initial appearance before Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain to face a charge of non-capital murder.

Prosecutors allege that Cooper, on June 12, stabbed and intentionally caused the death of 42-year-old Knight, after an argument over money turned physical.

Knight was due to begin a multinational tour next month.

Cooper was not required to enter a plea to the charge during his court appearance.

He next returns to court on August 15 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Also appearing in the same court was Whitney Johnson, who is accused of a fatal stabbing in Pinewood Gardens.

Johnson, 28, of Jacaranda Street, is accused of the June 21 stabbing death of Jareth Cartwright.

He was not required to plead to the murder charge.

He was denied bail and ordered to return to court on August 15.
