Seventeen people were injured during a mass shooting at a birthday party in Montell Heights early Sunday morning, including 14 who received gunshot injuries, police said.
The Nassau Guardian understands that four males and 10 females were shot. Another three victims were reportedly injured during the panic. Three of the victims suffering from gunshot wounds are said to be in critical condition.
“As a result of the mass casualty incident early this morning with 14 gunshot wound victims, 12 persons will require admission,” Minister of Health Dr. Duane Sands said.
“This impacts the situation we had this week of overcrowding and boarding of patients in A&E. Therefore, all elective surgery and admissions are canceled until further notice. The public is advised to stay tuned to updates.”
Four of the victims are under the age of 18, according to Sands.
*The original version of this story indicated that the shooting took place at a baby shower. Police have since confirmed that the attack happened at a party.
