Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in a house fire in Sunlight Village, off East Street, according to Chief Superintendent Walter Evans, officer-in-charge of Fire Services.
Evans said officers were called to the scene of the fire shortly after 11 a.m. today.
Firefighters found the body at the rear of the home, which sustained extensive damage. The body was burned beyond recognition, Evans said.
Officers from Fire Services and the Central Detective Unit are collectively investigating the incident, Evans said.
He added that the sex of the victim is unclear. An autopsy will confirm the cause of death.
The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
