Go before God, and make your requests for his blessings

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Suppose one of you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him’? And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything’? I tell you even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. So, I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Luke 11:5-10

There is a saying, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. When you keep asking, you will get what you request. You will get it because the person to whom you are making the request wants peace, therefore, he or she will give you what you want.

The man in the above text had a friend who had a need. His friend knew that he could wear him down, therefore, he went seeking his assistance.

My daughter was somewhat a squeaky wheel. When she wanted something, she would not give up. She kept coming at me until I gave in.

In this text, when Jesus talks about asking, He is talking about prayer. We seek gifts from God through our prayers.

God answers prayers. All that we need to do is ask. Even though we cannot wear down God, He will hear our prayers and respond. His response might not always be what we expect, but He responds.

Jesus said ask and it will be given to you. “For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” God wants us to come to Him in prayer.

Many of God’s prophets of old, prayed for years before getting a response to their prayers. Some did not even live to see their prayers come to fruition. Notwithstanding that, they did not give up. Even in death, their prayers were answered.

I once had a pastor who constantly plagued me about two things, getting married and going to seminary. He lived to perform the wedding ceremony, but he never lived to see me go to seminary. I am sure he prayed about it. Even though he had died, God still answered his prayers.

We humans give good things to our children. God will do even better for us when we make our petitions to Him in prayer. Continue to make petitions to God.

There are some of you who are praying for your families in hopes of seeing some change in their lives. You might think that you are praying in vain, because your prayers are going unanswered. Don’t give up. God will answer your prayers.

Be a squeaky wheel. You will get God’s attention. I have learned over the years, if you want to get something, you must keep asking until you become an annoyance.

Even though men will become annoyed with you, God will not. He wants you to come before Him and make your requests for His blessings, His gifts.

If we humans who are evil can give our children good things, think about our father in heaven, God the Almighty. He will give us every good thing. Yes, “Ask and it will be given unto you; seek and you will find.” Amen.
