PLP demands PM fire Bennett Minnis from WSC board
If the prime minister doesn’t fire a Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) board member who made disparaging comments against the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), then the party would take “actions,” PLP Leader Philip Brave Davis said yesterday.
“We are saying to the prime minister, act today and dismiss Bennett Minnis or actions will be taken by the PLP to ensure his removal from office,” Davis said in a statement.
He added, “The prime minister waffled and deflected and buckled in the case of Bennett Minnis and his racist, homophobic remarks while sitting as a member of the Water and Sewerage Corporation.
“Instead of immediately dismissing Bennett Minnis, the prime minister has adopted the behavior and condoned it by refusing to condemn it and fire his cousin and campaign general.”
Davis did not say what kind of action the PLP would take.
In a series of voice notes, Bennett Minnis, a WSC board director, expressed disapproval of the PLP leadership visiting Long Island, insisting that the PLP “needs to stay out of Long Island”.
The PLP recently led a delegation to Clarence Town to honor the late Sir Henry Milton Taylor, one of the founders of the party.
“The PLP is one corrupt, tiefin’, no good, bastard, homosexual, African monkeys,” Minnis said.
He said the next time the PLP attempts to enter Clarence Town, he would “block up the road” and noted that “no policeman would be able to stop us”.
“I dare any police to stop us,” he said.
On Monday, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said the FNM has addressed the matter but he did not explain how.
He said the board member is still in place.
On Tuesday, when asked how the matter had been addressed, Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister said, “Cabinet has made some determinations and that’s why the prime minister can speak. The only person who can speak to that is the prime minister.”
Davis has filed a complaint to Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson against Bennett Minnis.
