Kemp wins BGF’s Lyford Cay Classic

Steven Kemp shot two under par 70 to win this round of the Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) Sands Beer Cup Lyford Cay Classic event held at the Lyford Cay Club on Friday, August 9.

Kemp had fierce competition from junior golfer Heathcliffe Kane who finished second with a one-over par 73. Third place was secured by Pablo Nahmias. He finished the round three-over par 75.

Kemp had a great back nine performance, picking up four birdies on holes 10 through 12 and hole 18. His back nine score was 34.

On the front nine, Kemp started off with an eagle on the first hole – a par five 468-yard hole. He bogeyed holes four and eight on the way to a score of 36 on the front nine.

For Kane, he had a better back nine than front nine. On the front nine, Kane finished with a birdie and a bogey to score 36. On the back nine, Kane had three birdies, but they were insignificant. He bogeyed four holes on the back nine to end with a score of 37.

Nahmias had a low scoring front nine as he ended with a score of 35. He had birdies on holes four and six.

He had a score of 40 on the back nine. Nahmias had just one birdie but finished with three bogeys and double-bogeyed on hole 15.

Jenna Bayles who finished tenth overall with a score of 11 over-par 83, topped the female rankings at the Classic.

In the gross stableford scoring, Kemp finished with 38. Kane and Nahmias finished with 35 and 33 respectively.

On the net scoring side, Kane finished on top with a seven-under par and a total net of 65. Kemp and Brian Albury were just under Kane. They both scored five-under par with a total net score of 67.

Bayles led all the females on the net side, having scored two-over par with a net score of 74. She finished tenth over in the net scoring.

In the net stableford scoring, Kane finished with 43 points. Kemp and Albury were tied with 41 points each.

The closest to the pin for the female was A’Marie Smith. She did it on hole number 11. On the men’s side it was Jim Laroda who did it on hole number two.

Smith also had the longest drive for the females. A feat she did on hole number five. Nahmias won the longest drive for the males. He did it on hole number 13.

Next up on the BGF calendar for the Sands Beer Cup series is the Players Championships to be held at the Royal Blue Golf Club, Baha Mar from September 21-22, 2019.

The first round of the Sands Beer Cup series was the Grand Bahama Open at the Lucayan Reef Golf Course in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

In addition to Sands Beer Company, the Lyford Cay Classic was sponsored by the Lyford Cay Club, the Coral Restaurant, Bahama Grill restaurant, and Rubis Gas Station (East West Highway).
