Cannabis advocates not all about money

Dear Editor,

“There are none so blind as those who will not see.”

To those who believe that cannabis advocates are all about the money, let the families who have watched cancer eat away at and kill their loved ones tell you their horror stories, then speak to those who have used cannabis successfully to eradicate their cancer.

Let those who suffer from addiction to opioids and narcotics tell of how cannabis nullifies the hold that these chemicals have on them.

Let those who have experienced the healing benefits of cannabis for milder illnesses of the human body give accounts of how the plant solves their issues.

It is a scientific fact that the human body makes cannabinoids naturally. Cannabis enhances and helps the body’s systems as it has been created to and had been doing for thousands of years before prohibition by humankind occurred in 1937. It is surprising how quickly those eight decades of misinformation and misunderstanding the plant have led to the prevailing negative views about what inevitably will be the saving grace of this world today.

The lack of information caused by the prohibition of cannabis has made many ignorant of the fact that alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and sugar are all far more addictive than this beneficial plant.

Misinformed people also do not realize that any “addictions” blamed on cannabis likely can be traced to illicit dealers spiking the substance with other chemicals or, more obviously, the use of addictive tobacco/nicotine products commonly used to roll dried cannabis in.

Then there also is the use of what is known as synthetic “marijuana”, which isn’t derived from the cannabis genus at all. Synthetic “marijuana” is random dried plant matter sprayed with a mix of chemicals that have no connection to cannabinoids.

This artificial man-made concoction has been known to zombify its users, who mistake the dried mixture for organic cannabis. The unfortunate result is that observers then blame cannabis for the damaging effects of this fake “marijuana”.

Back to the original point, though. Cannabis advocates are not all about the money. It has been clarified on many occasions that cannabis can feed our people, clothe our people, shelter our people, medicate our people and provide energy for our people.

The irony is that those who are preaching against this wonder plant are speaking out against a creation that was put here on this planet to benefit humanity. Cannabis is a natural creation that can correct the artificial economic disparities that affect the disenfranchised in our communities by empowering them in a myriad of ways.

History will judge harshly any institution that refuses to educate themselves properly about cannabis and how it can help the people of our communities in multiple beneficial ways. Cannabis is for life. Cannabis is for empowerment. Cannabis is for the people.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8.
