Two people murdered on Thursday

Two people were murdered in separate incidents on New Providence on Thursday, bringing the murder count for 2019 to 78.

In the latest incident, a woman was stabbed to death through Emmanuel Way off St. Vincent Road just after 7 p.m.

A nearby resident, who didn’t wish to speak on camera, said he had only heard a commotion outside, then screams and what sounded like rocks being thrown at a car before it sped off.

By then, the woman was lying in the road.

On the scene, the woman’s body lie on the cold tar road outside her home before eventually being placed in a body bag. Neighbors say the victim was seen outside with a man known to her moments before she was killed. Adult relatives who lived with her were subsequently taken to CDU for questioning.

Only two hours earlier, police said a group of men were at Fig Tree Court and Dorsett Street, Fox Hill, when the occupants of a Dodge truck shot at them and injured one man before speeding away. The injured man was taken to hospital where he died.

Murders in The Bahamas are up nearly nine percent compared to the same period last year.
