Man charged with three counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder
Family members of Eduardo Carey, 40, watched in silence as he was hauled before the magistrate’s court on three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Carey is charged with the December 15, 2018 murder of Ryan Butler; the August 25, 2019 murder of Justin Davis and the September 15, 2019 murder of Anthony Wright.
Wright’s relatives were outside court shouting at the shackled Carey as officers escorted him inside.
The 40-year-old is also charged with three counts of attempted murder for two separate shooting incidents.
It is alleged that on December 15, 2018 in Ridgeland Park, Carey attempted to kill DeAngelo Bethel and Kevon Bethel. It is further alleged that he attempted to kill Richard Brown on August 7, 2019.
Carey told the court that he felt that his rights were violated by officers at the Central Detective Unit (CDU).
He claimed that Richard Brown, one of the attempted murder victims, visited CDU with an attorney to inform officers that Carey was innocent of the crime, but was turned away by an inspector.
Carey’s lawyer, Tonique Lewis, said her client was willing to participate in an ID parade for all of the matters but was denied that opportunity by an inspector at CDU.
Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt made note of the claim.
Carey was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges and was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
He will return to court on December 5 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.
