Man drowns near Cabbage Beach

Police are investigating an alleged drowning which occurred near Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island yesterday.

According to officers, police were alerted on the matter shortly after 9 a.m. when they received reports of a man that went overboard from a vessel that ran aground.

According to Inspector Leonardo Burrows, crew members on the vessel indicated that they searched the area for that man, but were unsuccessful.

A short time later, another vessel passing discovered the body of a male in the water and retrieved him.

He added that the victim is believed to be in his late 30s.

EMS was then contacted and pronounced him dead on the scene.

Burrows said no foul play is suspected at this time and police will await an autopsy for the exact cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing.
