God gave mankind dominance over the earth
“Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? The Lord knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.”
– Psalm 94: 9-11
Growing up, many of the admonitions and warnings to us as children came by way of wise sayings from our forebears. One rhyming Bahamian song confesses a lament from Joe, “If I had listened to what mama say, I would not be in this mess today. Then when inquisitiveness irked our elders, they would reply monkey put question to his mother.”
When God created this world and mankind, instruction was given to have dominance of the same. Mankind is but a watered-down creation of the creator, God.
I am truly holy amazed at the creative power of mankind. His knowledge is vast and expansive, great and wide. GPS, Google, Alexa, et al, will spew out requested information in a split second. Tell them what you want and boom! – it is yours for the asking. The word “secret” has been robbed of its power, and all that were for centuries and lifetimes locked away in closets of wherever, have been brought to the open as exposure and disclosure; not to mention the favorite exposure “sport” of whistle blowing.
I know someone who shared private information with a friend warning not to tell anyone. One day while walking, someone goaded him about the given information. Confronting the person as to why the information was shared, the person calmly said that it was not them, but the person whom the information was shared with – wow!
Today in our world, no matter how high profiled meetings of secrecy are held, behind closed and should I say locked doors, much to the dismay of oaths taken as to what is said here remains here is true and in order, but those present don’t stay there.
So, here comes our text for today barreling down on us in algebraic form – “If God made ear, eye, mind, memory bank – can He not see, hear, interpret the explicit and implicit thoughts, words and deeds of our lives?” Does He not know your thoughts if they are evil or good on behalf of the people? Doesn’t He know if advantage is being taken of the masses who are treated as children with no advocacy on behalf of their rights. Does He not know when justice is wounded where it hurts the most?
David calls out to God in this 94th Psalm, “O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth, render a reward to the proud.
“Lord, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? And all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict their heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
“Yet they say, the Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. Understand, ye brutish among the people; and ye fools, when will ye be wise?”
Technological information devices only bear truth that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is privy to all the dark secrets of our lives and only through sincere confession will they be deleted from the listening and recording discs of time.
