Man sentenced for illegal gun possession

A man arrested after police found a loaded gun in his home has been jailed for two years and six months.

Andre Thompson, 26, pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Police arrested Thompson, his 54-year-old father and his 20-year-old girlfriend on February 11 after they found the 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition in the home on Holly Road in Winton Meadows.

The prosecution withdrew the charges against the other suspects after Thompson’s guilty plea.
