Temporary suspension of in-person enrollment for NHI

Following the announcement of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) on New Providence, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has indefinitely suspended all in-person enrollment effective immediately to promote social distancing and to assist in minimizing the spread of COVID-19 from person-to-person contact.

Anyone wishing to enroll with NHI can do so by phone and should call (242) 396-8500, or enroll online by visiting the website www.nhibahamas.gov.bs.

The National Health Insurance Authority is committed to taking all possible actions to ensure the safety of its beneficiaries, employees and the general public. Preventative and protective measures have been put in place until further notice.

Established in April 2017, NHIA’s aim is to achieve a shared goal of universal healthcare. NHI Bahamas aims to ensure that all legal Bahamian residents, no matter income, age, the island of residence or current health status, can receive affordable and accessible healthcare. There are currently over 75,000 beneficiaries enrolled in National Health Insurance, with 66 providers across Abaco, Grand Bahama and New Providence and four labs within the program.
