Man who shared sex video of former lover jailed for six months

A man has been jailed for six months for sharing an explicit video of his former girlfriend on WhatsApp.

Livingstone Joseph, 25, first sent the recording of himself and the woman to her baby’s father.

The video eventually ended up in her work and school groups.

Joseph did not have a lawyer at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes. He pleaded guilty to a charge of intentional libel.

Trying to explain his actions, Joseph said, “I end up sending the video to her baby daddy. At the time, I was in my feelings. I was angry still.”

Prosecuting Sergeant Kendrick Bauld said the woman made a complainant at the Central Detective Unit on April 6.

She said Joseph had recorded a sexual encounter between them with her consent. However, he had promised to delete it.

The woman said her boyfriend first showed her the video on his phone. She was further embarrassed when her intimate moments ended up in a work and school group.

The magistrate asked Joseph what he intended to achieve by betraying the woman.

Joseph replied, “I wasn’t in my right mind.”

He maintained that he had only shared the video with the woman’s baby daddy “so he would have stopped bothering us two”.

Joseph claimed that the woman was his first love.

The magistrate said Joseph’s behavior was unacceptable.

He advised, “In the future, think things through before you hit send.”
