Man, who posted nudes of his ex, jailed for nine months

A man on Thursday admitted to damaging his ex-girlfriend’s iPhone and accessing sensitive information from her social media accounts and iCloud drive.

Malik Wright, of Chippingham, pleaded guilty to charges of fraud by false pretenses, unauthorized access to computer material and causing damage at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Sergeant Kendrick Bauld, the prosecutor, told the court that Wright broke Devanique Dean’s cell phone during an argument on May 9.

A few days later, Dean learned that someone had posted nude photos that had been stored in the phone online.

After checking her bank account, Dean learned that Wright had ordered a mini-fridge, Jordan tennis shoes and tattoo needles from Amazon with her debit card.

Police traced the activity and purchases to Wright’s computer, Bauld told the court.

In passing judgment, McKinney said that the object of sentencing is deterrence and the court not give a “slap on the wrist for such serious offenses”.

McKinney imposed concurrent sentences of nine months’ imprisonment on the three counts.

McKinney said Wright allowed Dean’s nudes to be “published to the world”.

Additionally, the court ordered Wright to repay Dean $1,559 for the damage to her phone and the fraudulent purchases.

If he doesn’t, Wright will spend an additional nine months in prison.

Wright’s lawyer, Samuel Brown, had asked the court to consider ordering community service.

Brown described Wright as one of the country’s “best tattoo artists”.

Brown said that Wright was the costume design director for the Roots Junkanoo group.

He said that Wright’s actions were “uncharacteristic” and were the result “of a domestic dispute with the mother of his son”.

The lawyer said that no one would benefit from Wright’s incarceration.
