Police have filed raped and burglary charges against a 24-year-old resident of Andros.
Garnet Thompson Jr, of Behring Point, is accused of breaking into a home in Cargill Creek, Central Andros, between November 18 and 19 and raping a 27-year-old woman.
Thompson wasn’t required to enter pleas to the charges when he made his first appearance before Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr. on Friday.
He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until February 24 because the magistrate lacks the jurisdiction to consider bail for the offenses.
However, Thompson was told that he has the right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, a resident of New Providence was also remanded to prison on a rape charge.
Peter Stuart appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly accused of the June 5, 2022 rape of a 17-year-old girl.
Stuart’s next court date is February 3. He will remain in custody unless granted bail by the superior court.
Miranda Adderley represented both accused rapists.
