Aliv celebrated its three-year anniversary yesterday as the newest mobile communications company to the market. Chief Aliv Officer Damian Blackburn explained that the company has in that time acquired more than 170,000 customers and holds an estimated 37 percent of the mobile market as of 2019.
Blackburn, who spoke at a ceremony recognizing the three-year landmark, said the company has in its short three years driven its average revenue per user (ARPU) up to $39 and secured a net promoter score of 70, which he said is on par with brands like Apple.
Blackburn added that after EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) losses of 14.8 million in its fiscal year 2019, which was an $18.8 million improvement over the previous year, the company is on track to post a positive EBITDA performance in fiscal year 2020.
“It is only three short years since we revealed the Aliv brand to the Bahamian market,” he said.
“I am incredibly proud to lead the amazing Aliv team and would like to thank each one of them for the Herculean efforts that they make every day to deliver an excellent customer experience for our customers.
“I would like to thank the entire Cable Bahamas team, Aliv’s shareholders, board of directors and our business and community partners for their unwavering support in the last three years. Lastly, thanks to all of our customers for ‘believing in best.’”
Aliv, in a press release, said revenues for fiscal year 2019 ending June 30 reached $59.1 million, which was a 62 percent increase over the previous year.
Blackburn said the company invested more than $190 million in its license and building its 4G LTE and 3G networks of 243 towers across the entire Bahamas.
The release noted that 4.5G LTE is now available on more than 40 percent of the company’s sites.
The company has also provided more than 300 jobs since its inception.
President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Cable Bahamas and Chairman of Aliv Franklyn Butler said yesterday that Hurricane Dorian tested the resolve of Aliv and proved that the company built the best network in The Bahamas.
“Aliv has grown rapidly over the last three years and our Bahamian team is setting the standard in delivering best-in-class customer service,” Butler said.
“Aliv is now playing a full part in realizing the vision of the Cable Bahamas Group of companies: to be the leader in enabling lifestyles and experiences.”
Butler added that the company, as it rebuilds on Abaco, will have to use lessons learned on what people want and need during a storm to plot the way forward for the island.
“There is always going to be a balancing act,” he said.
“There will never be a perfect solution in storms, but I can tell you that we will continue to strike the right balance and we are now evaluating, even looking at wireless solutions with Aliv.
“We are evaluating, from an infrastructure perspective, how we deal with the broader island of Abaco… We’re going to have to strike the right balance between providing wireless solutions and providing traditional fixed connectivity.”
