Two Andros men have been missing at sea since Christmas day, police say.
Harold Fitzgerald, 49, and Ryan Russell, 38, left Lowe Sound, Andros, and never returned, according to reports.
Police said the pair were planning to fish near Joulter Cays, roughly 10 miles off the coast of Lowe Sound.
According to Kortney Cartwright, one of Fitzgerald’s relatives, he and Russell left in a white 25-foot Mako with a single 200 horsepower engine.
Cartwright said the men were expected to return by 6 p.m. Christmas day.
However, their families said they had not heard from them.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) said in a statement released on Tuesday the search for the missing men was ongoing.
“A joint effort by members of the RBDF, police, BASRA and with U.S. Coast Guard aerial support were immediately dispatched to begin a search for the vessel,” it said.
“Aerial and maritime searches along the coast lines, ocean waters, nearby cays and reefs were conducted without success thus far.
“The search, which has since been extended as far west towards Bimini island, is ongoing.
“Community persons have also taken part in the search and are encouraged to keep their eyes open for the two boaters.”
In a Facebook post, Cartwright thanked those who have helped so far in the search efforts.
“To the many pilots and other seamen who have assisted in finding their whereabouts, our family will forever be in your debt,” Cartwright said.
“[For] the countless calls, texts and emails sent to offer words of encouragement, words alone can’t express our gratitude.
“And to Harold, wherever you are, know that your family refuses to give up hope in finding you.”
