“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 18:19
How many times have you heard persons respond “I am not going there with you”, or “don’t go there” when a certain question is put to them? In other words, I am not agreeing with you in whatever undertaking you are about to do, or subject you are talking about. On the other hand, if one agrees with what you are doing or what is happening or saying, in the ecstasy of the moment someone nearest you would lift a hand or both hands and say, “Give me five!”
Today, dear readers, we address the prayer of agreement, and it must be done with someone just as earnest, sincere and excited as you are for the building of God’s kingdom here on earth.
The prayer of agreement, when used in line with God’s word, will cover every situation that you will ever face. In order to get the results desired for this type of prayer to work, it is obvious that those involved must be in total agreement with each other. The Bible says that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word will be established. Further, one can put 1,000 to flight and two can put 10,000 to flight, thus the importance of coming into agreement with one another in prayer.
Many times, we share in innocence what we would like God to do for us with those who are wolves in sheep’s clothing and then go on to ask them to pray with us. Jesus tells us that the hour is now come when the true worshippers must worship the father in spirit and truth. A story is told of two churches close to each other and it was the time when the choirs were giving their selection. One was singing “will there be any stars in my crown”, and the other, the chorus “no, not one”.
The first key to receive what you ask for is to agree with what the word of God says; believe that His word will hasten to perform. Next, be strong in your mind; control your thoughts, cast down anything that goes against the knowledge of God and everything you have agreed upon. At times, write down your prayer, keep a prayer journal and give thanks when your prayer is answered.
Have you received an answer to a prayer that perhaps may have been as long as 10 years ago, but you are rejoicing because out of the blue the answer came right on time? Habakkuk tells us to write the vision and make it plain. Be specific in your prayers.
Lastly, in order for this prayer of agreement to work, we must learn to forgive, not only so our Father can forgive us, but so that our prayers will not be hindered by strife, malice, jealousy and envy. If you do not have a prayer partner, ask God to send you that person who will weep with you when you weep, and rejoice with you when occasions call for rejoicing.
