The body of an elderly woman was found submerged in a pond in South Ocean yesterday afternoon, ending a two-day search for a missing woman.
“Shortly after 12 p.m., officers of the Criminal Investigation Department were in the area of South Ocean as the result of our investigation into a missing person complaint that was lodged two days ago,” Police Press Liason Assistant Superintendent Audley Peters said.
“They (police) were searching the area when they discovered the body of a female submerged. The body was retrieved and it was confirmed that it was a female.”
According to Peters, police do not suspect foul play and await the result of an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and identification of next of kin.
“It is an elderly lady who appears to be in her 60s,” he said.
Peters said police believe the body is that of 71-year-old Alberta Russell who went missing from her St. Andrew’s Drive, South Ocean Village, home on Monday.
