A man accused of sexually abusing a 24-year-old woman with a mental disability returns to court next month.
Yuel Major is charged with unlawful sexual intercourse over the alleged incident. Although the woman is an adult, prosecutors say that she could not give consent due to her mental handicap.
Major appeared before Senior Justice Bernard Turner yesterday for a case management hearing.
He said that he was no longer able to afford a lawyer.
Major’s trial is set for January 17, 2022. However, prosecutor Janet Munnings said the matter was “under review”.
As a result, she requested an adjournment to March 11.
