CDC to host mental health forum and deliverance service

With the overall objective to raise awareness of mental health issues worldwide, and mobilize efforts in support of mental health, one church is stepping up to the plate, hosting its first mental health forum and deliverance service.

Calvary Deliverance Church (CDC), through its forum and service, is hoping to break the stigma associated with mental health illness by equipping individuals with the necessary information on how to cope with stresses that may lead to depression or even mental health illness.

The forum is expected to provide pertinent education from a professional perspective in the likes of Dr. Helen Rolle, psychologist with The Family Group, and Apostle David Butler of World Outreach Ministries International.

World Mental Health Day, which takes place today, October 10, is a day that provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

Senior pastor of Calvary Deliverance Church Bishop James Newry and his wife, Queenie, host the forum and service.

“This illness does not discriminate against age, socioeconomic background, nationality nor race,” said Newry. “As such, the church is offering an open invitation to everyone to participate in the Wednesday, October 23 forum and service at the church at 7 p.m.

“The forum will provide pertinent education from a professional perspective and the deliverance service will inspire you by the Holy Spirit of God to be freed of spiritual attacks by the enemy of our souls,” said Newry.

In the wake of the devastation left behind by Hurricane Dorian, Newry said the church acknowledges that individuals face daily struggles that require attention, such as failed marriages and relationships, loss of loved ones, job turmoil, substance abuse and unplanned pregnancies, to name a few.

“The forum and service seek to sensitize the public to the fact that there is healthy professional and spiritual help available. These professionals will assist persons in recognizing symptoms that can lead to mental illness, provide information on how to obtain help and also expound on the spiritual aspect and the importance of having a relationship with God, as He is the ultimate difference-maker.”
