Charges filed in airport robbery

Police on Tuesday charged two men with armed robbery and attempted murder in connection with a heist at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Prosecutors allege that Marvin Tilme, 29, of Coconut Grove, and Garnett Newbold, 55, of Mill Court, on October 2 robbed Karen Bain of a Bahamasair deposit bag containing $2,654, a Motorola cellphone, worth $200, and Coach glasses, valued at $560.

The men are also accused of the attempted murders of Bain and Corporal 1964 Smith, who was providing a security escort for Bain.

Prosecutors allege that Tilme, Newbold, Brian Goodridge, 60, of Sunset Park, Jeffrey Lunn, 55, of Garden Hills, and Ella Adderley, 33, of Garden Hills, conspired to commit the armed robbery.

Goodridge, Lunn, and Adderley, are further accused of abetment to armed robbery and abetment to attempted murder.

They were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they made their initial court appearance before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain.

The magistrate remanded all of the accused to the Bahamas Department of Corrections. They next return to court on December 15 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Tilme, the only accused with a lawyer, is represented by Wendawn Miller-Frazer.
