A child was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting in Nassau Village last night, Assistant Superintendent Audley Peters said last night.
Peters said the child was between the age of six and 10. He said the victim was caught in the crossfire of the shooting.
He said police received reports before 9 p.m. of a shooting on Esmeralda Avenue and Alexandria Blvd.
“Officers responded and on arrival they met the body of a juvenile male lying face down on the ground with apparent wounds to the body,” Peters said.
Peters said a blue car approached a residence on the street and the occupant of the car opened fire on a group of people who were gathered outside.
The child was shot and later pronounced dead.
Peters appealed to anyone with information to contact police immediately.
