Discount Distributors launches groceries purchase and delivery app

Discount Distributors has launched an app to make it easy for Bahamians to buy groceries online and have them delivered to their door.

The app, found in the Apple and Google Play app stores under Discount Distributors, is simple and user friendly, the company’s Sales and Marketing Manager Toni Daley told Guardian Business.

Since its release on September 13, it has been downloaded about 125 times, with more than 100 orders processed, Daley said.

“It’s available on the Apple and Google Play stores free of charge,” she said.

“We’ve now released packages that may only be purchased via the app and we will begin selling alcohol via the app only in November.

“For us the goal is to be innovative and use technology to facilitate a need in The Bahamas. That’s not limited to our app, it includes even Whatsapp orders. We want to make it as hassle free as possible for every person on every island to have access to affordable, fresh food.”

According to Daley, the food service distributor’s physical store on Chesapeake Road is open seven days a week and ships to the Family Islands. It also offers an in-store grocery pickup service along with its delivery service to residences and businesses.

“We’ll continue to meet our clients wherever and on whatever platform is most convenient to them,” said Daley.

The app also allows for customers to round their purchase up to the nearest dollar and have that change go to a charitable organization of Discount Distributors choosing.

Daley said the company’s owners, a group of young Bahamians, donated $10,000 to non-profit group HeadKnowles in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

She added that the company made a list of items needed by hurricane victims available for customers to buy and shipped them to where they were needed.

“After the hurricane it just seems very timely to get it released,” said Daley.

Daley said the app was produced by both foreign and local developers and is being maintained locally.
