A 15-year-old has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) at the Kendal G. L. Isaacs National Gymnasium, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands confirmed last night.
“So, we had one person test positive for active TB,” Sands said.
“As a result, as per protocol, all exposures will be tested. So, all persons in the gym and staff will get skin tests. Those that test positive will have chest X-rays done.
“So far, 30-plus persons have had positive skin tests. There is no evidence of an outbreak. We are doing the usual surveillance.”
The gymnasium is being used to house victims of Hurricane Dorian, which struck Abaco and Grand Bahama three months ago.
The Category 5 storm displaced thousands of people and killed at least 70.
There are still at least 400 people living in the gymnasium.
Officials have said that hurricane shelters, like the gymnasium, are expected to close in early 2020.
