Don’t Blink Home Run Derby returns to ‘Paradise’

The Don’t Blink Home Run Derby in Paradise will be swinging in a new direction this year, moving its base from Montagu to Atlantis, Paradise Island.

Co-Founders of the derby, Bahamian professional baseball players Todd Isaacs Jr. and Lucius Fox Jr., have announced that the 2021 event, returning after a year off in 2020, due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place on Saturday, December 18, under the theme “Pirates Invade Paradise”.

Since the inaugural event, in 2018, the home run derby has grown and maintained its goal to highlight the natural essence of The Bahamas while showcasing the next generation of baseball superstars. Through a partnership with Atlantis, Isaacs and Fox have added new elements to this year’s event, and are proud to present another crowd-pleaser.

“Atlantis, Paradise Island, is committed to growing and promoting sports tourism in The Bahamas. Global events like the Don’t Blink Home Run Derby in Paradise generates exposure, buzz and, most importantly, opportunities for young athletes to experience professional events – right here, at home,” said President and Managing Director at Atlantis Audrey Oswell.

Leading up to the derby is Don’t Blink Week in ‘Paradise’. The week will tip off at Atlantis Paradise Harbour on Wednesday, December 15 with the newly added celebrity softball game. The softball game will feature derby participants along with local Bahamian influencers.

The excitement continues the following morning on December 16, with a skills camp for aspiring student-athletes from ages four to 18. The camp is free of charge; boys and girls can come and receive quality instruction from over 40 professional baseball players.

On the eve of the derby, the week of events will continue as players compete in a scramble-style golf tournament at Atlantis’ Ocean Club Golf Course.

The grand finale is set to take place on Saturday, December 18. The derby promises to provide fireworks, as Bahamian infielder with the Miami Marlins Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr. headlines the field of players in his return home. Team Fox aims to win back-to-back team titles at the derby, and American major leaguer Lewis Brinson is looking to defend his crown as Home Run King.
