The Bahamian gospel artist community will have a new award show to look forward to with the Bahamas Gospel Music Awards (BGMA), to be staged by Elev8tion Now.
The BGMA’s inaugural show, which will highlight gospel artists throughout the country across the genres of gospel music, is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 12, and will dole out awards for: Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Junkanoo/Rake ‘n’ Scrape Song of the Year, Traditional Gospel Song of the Year, Contemporary Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Album of the Year.
Any music material that has been released between January 2019 to December 2020 will be eligible for submission, according to BGMA officials.
The submission period, which is underway, closes on May 1.
Current Elev8tion Now members will vote for nominees and winners of the various categories online at www.elev8tionnow.com/bgma.
Elev8tion Now members will begin voting for nominees on Monday, March 15. The process will end Wednesday, March 31, in preparation for the show.
The event, which is expected to be televised, will also allow viewers to vote for Radio Personality and Radio Station of the Year, with honorary awards to be handed out for Trailblazer and Lifetime Achievement.
BGMA officials will host a number of events leading up to the inaugural show. A gospel music forum featuring gospel industry executives, artists and musicians discussing the state of the gospel industry will be hosted on Saturday, March 20. And nominees will be announced via virtual performances on Monday, April 5.
