Emergency landing at LPIA

A Caribbean Airlines flight that departed Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, Guyana, en route to New York on Saturday had to make an emergency landing at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) later that night.

Authorities said flight 526 — a Boeing 737-800 — departed Guyana at 5:15 p.m. headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport with 135 passengers and seven crew members onboard.

The plane suffered an engine failure 300 nautical miles from the Nassau airport, leading to the pilots declaring an emergency and subsequently diverting to LPIA.

The aircraft landed without incident at 9:50 p.m., officials said.
