Freeport native murdered in Texas

Bahamas Honorary Consul General in Houston Lynden Rose confirmed yesterday that a 23-year-old Bahamian student was shot and killed in Houston on Friday.

The student was identified as Kani Rahming, a native of Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The Houston Police Department (HPD) said the incident took place around 10 p.m.

“The victim was inside his apartment at the above address when a rock was thrown through his bedroom window,” HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective K. Heaverlo wrote in their report.

“According to a witness, the victim stepped outside to investigate and he was shot multiple times. The victim then ran back into the apartment and collapsed in the bathroom.

“Paramedics transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

Rose said he is in contact with the victim’s mother, noting that she landed in Houston yesterday.

He said the family was making burial arrangements.

“If I’m not mistaken, his birthday would’ve been this week,” Rose said.

Rose said Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield have offered condolences to the family.

There are no suspects in custody, according to HPD.
