Girl denied alleged sex incident at PMH, Munroe says

Police are investigating a report that a 52-year-old man had sex with a 14-year-old girl while she was a patient at Princess Margaret Hospital, but both denied this occurred, Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe said yesterday.

He said police brought the girl to the hospital after her mother made a complaint about the girl having sex.

“She tested positive for COVID,” Munroe said.

“She was detained for COVID. During the course of that detention, a janitor at the hospital made a report about her and a 52-year-old patient. The young child was discharged.

“The report was made and the police, they investigated. The child denies what the janitor reports and the gentleman denies what the janitor reports. The police are continuing to investigate.”

Munroe’s comments followed social media claims that a 14-year-old girl was raped at the hospital last week.

On Saturday, the Public Hospitals Authority(PHA) acknowledged that an incident involving a minor allegedly took place on Friday.

The PHA said the matter was referred to the police and an inquiry was underway at the hospital.

“The PHA remains committed to the delivery of safe, quality care to all of our patients, especially minors,” it said.
