Along Life's Road

God has the cure

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know if my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
– Psalm 139: 23-24

The Negro Spiritual confesses that the need for prayers is not for Mama, Papa or Grandma, but for one’s self. It’s me, me O Lord standing in the need of prayer.

It was common growing up for parents to take their children yearly for their physical checkup. My cousin, on occasions, always tell the story of his mom taking him and his twin brother to the doctor for annual checkups and how they would proceed. He is in good health, up to day.

This continues today, and many are proud to announce that they go for their annual checkup. Likewise, they also announce that all is well. But on the flip side, there are people receive who positive results, only to suddenly meet their demise.

Because of the wrongs that are happening globally to those who have no one to advance their plight and cause, as I read this Psalm lying down, I felt as if I was in an MRI machine, and whatever is wrong on the inside will be made visible.

We are wonderfully and fearfully made, says the Word of God. Our Creator knows every fiber, sinew, capillary, muscle, bone… and all that makes us human. He knows our thoughts, our actions, our everything.

In this 139th Psalm, David is pleading to God for a spiritual MRI. There may be times in our lives when we try to hide from God, but like a hound dog, God will find you no matter where you may run or hide. Too often we continue to judge and put the blame on others while we are as cancerous on the inside.

David knew very well of the imperfections of his life. But running away from God is like running away from one’s self and shadow. Technology has brought us to such revealing knowledge of our body and so the more we learn of the body and nature, we should stand in awe and worship this great God of the universe.

So, today, let us all be resolved to visit the healing hospital of our heavenly father and be given the opportunity to be put in His all-seeing, knowing MRI machine. Please Father, search me, search my heart, search my mind and my thoughts, try and test me and tell me what you see. Is there wickedness, dishonesty, immorality, greed, covetousness, spitefulness? Tell me Father God, what are you seeing?

As you await your results in fear and trembling, know that whatever is not in keeping with doing that which is right, God has the cure for an all is well, all systems functioning, all units functioning report.

The cure is simple yet realistic and forthright. Jesus says my people must turn from their wicked ways – pray, humble themselves and seek my face, and only and in return they will receive their health card of abundant blessings and prosperity.
