A man who broke into an American lawyer’s vacation home has been jailed for two years.
Police arrested Samuel Joseph, also known as Joseph Samuels, of Sixth Street, The Grove, shortly after he broke into the Eastern Road home of David Peebles on September 1, 2019.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after receiving an alert from an alarm company. They saw three men fleeing the area but only caught Joseph.
In a police interview, Joseph admitted that he and his friends were riding around looking for homes to break into.
The thieves took two flat-screen Samsung televisions, with a combined value of $1,549.48 from the home, but they weren’t recovered.
Magistrate Samuel McKinney convicted Joseph of housebreaking and stealing.
Six months will be added to his two-year sentence if he fails to pay $3,000 in compensation to his victim.
