How to get excited about and make 2022 your best year ever

Time is non-refundable. In his best-selling book, The Magic of Thinking Big, author David J. Schwartz reminds us that successful people are not superhuman. Successful people, he says, “Are just ordinary folks who have developed belief in themselves and what they do. Many people in their attempt to build a successful life forget there are tools to help them.”

You have not forgotten. You have then, the two basic qualities needed to realize profit from this article: a desire for greater success and the intelligence to select the tools to help you realize that desire. In this article I will share three ideas that will help you to make 2022 your best year ever. Start now, right now, to discover how to make these ideas work for you.

Avoid negativity

Do you often think about difficulties, failure and disasters? Do you see yourself as stuck and unable to improve your life? If your answers are yes, then you will close your mind, see no opportunities and behave and react in such ways as to repel people and opportunities.

Two construction workers had taken a lunch break and opened their lunch boxes. One of them looked inside his box and said, “Not baloney sandwiches again! I can’t believe it. I hate baloney. This is the third time this week I’ve had baloney. I can’t stand baloney!”

The other one said, “Why don’t you just ask your wife to make you something different?” He replied, “I don’t have a wife. I made these myself.”

The reality is that for many of us, often the very things that we complain about the most or don’t like about our lives are things that we put there ourselves. Avoid negativity by choosing to think and to think positively. This is something we all have the capacity to control, but often choose not to.

Stop packing baloney sandwiches for yourself and begin the process of developing the positive mental attitude that will assist you in your life and not hold you back.

Rise early and
own your day

How we start our day usually determines how our entire day will go. A satisfying and accomplished day starts the night before. Avoid going to sleep without setting your intention for the day and writing it down.

The most get up and go, fire under pants, willingness to make things happen will be the first two and a half hours of your day. Do not waste it.

Do you want to change your mornings and own the power hours of your day? Then, stay off your phone. You own the phone. The phone does not own you. The difference that staying off your phone alone will make will be huge.

You can begin owning your day by owning the minutes and hours of each day. We waste countless hours each day watching television, keeping up with ‘news,’ scrolling through social media and skimming our favorite YouTube and TikTok videos just ‘one more time.’ But this doesn’t have to be the case. To own your day, try the following:

1. Start a journal. We cannot own our time until we understand how our time is being spent and how effective we are with our time during certain hours of the day.

2. Apply the “10 fewer hours grid”. Draw a box with four quadrants. Inside of these four quadrants you’re going to write:

• What I hate doing?

• What is my job?

• What should I stop doing?

• What are my distractions?

Fill out the four boxes and let me know what you are going to eliminate from your calendar this week. Email me at info@eliotkelly.co.uk. Once applied correctly, you can and will save 10-15 hours a week by simply taking the time to complete the exercise.

3. Ask the tough questions. Pull out a sheet of paper and write down the following questions:

• What are you getting approval for that does not serve you?

• Who is giving approval that does not serve you?

• Why are you seeking this approval?

• What is it costing you?

Having no routine or structure is so much more draining mentally, physically and emotionally than any routine could ever be. Asking the tough questions, applying the “10 fewer hours” grid and starting a journal, will not only help you to get more done in your day, but also help you feel 100 times better while doing it!

Keep the main thing the main thing

It’s all about the main thing. What is it that you want? Life, whether successful or unsuccessful is all about decisions. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

This is your year to challenge yourself. Making 2022 your best year ever will mean giving more of yourself than ever before by maintaining a positive mental attitude, owning your day, and developing a laser-like focus on the things and people that matter most. Create a “to-do” list and a “not to-do” list. Commit to making 2022 your best year while enjoying the process.
