Human remains found on Grand Bahama

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — Police on Grand Bahama discovered what is believed to be human remains in the Rocky Creek area on the island, Superintendent Brian Rolle said yesterday.

Rolle said officers were searching the Rocky Creek area yesterday after receiving word that a body had washed up in the area.

“At 11:27 a.m., a team, while searching the southeast section of Rocky Creek, discovered a badly decomposed body believed to be human remains,” Rolle said.

Rolle said about four or five people were lost in the area following the passage of Hurricane Dorian last month.

“It just made sense for us to check to see if those persons may have drifted in this particular area,” he said.

He explained that police have been constantly checking areas in the east and assured that they will continue to search the area for missing people.

“We are going to continue until we cover all the eastern area, especially the seaside where persons may have drifted,” he said.

Rolle previously revealed that there are about 30 persons missing from Grand Bahama.

Dorian decimated parts of Abaco and Grand Bahama, leaving at least 65 people dead and some 280 people missing.
