Immigration officer fined on drug charge

An immigration officer convicted of drug possession with intent to supply is facing dismissal.

Police arrested Delaune Curry, 26, of Johnson Terrace, on December 20, after they found six ounces of marijuana inside his apartment.

Curry pleaded guilty to the charge at his arraignment before Magistrate Kara Turnquest Deveaux on December 24, and she gave him the option of paying a $300 fine to avoid serving a six-month prison sentence.

Curry was posted at the Carmichael Road Detention Center at the time of his arrest.

His attorney, Bjorn Ferguson, told the court that Curry had the drugs for his personal use.

Immigration Director Clarence Russell said Curry’s file will be sent to the Public Service Commission for dismissal.
