Kudos to minister for dealing with child beating scandal
Dear Editor,
Social Services Minister Frankie Campbell is to be commended for moving swiftly and decisively in dealing with the Children’s Emergency Hostel abuse scandal.
The decision to provide the children with independent counseling is a good one. We await the outcome of the police investigation.
In addition to protecting our children and seniors, we are waiting for the government to bring forward the promised legislation to level the playing field on citizenship.
Attorney General Carl Bethel told us in November 2017, the government would amend the Bahamas Nationality Act to expand automatic citizenship rights for children of Bahamians.
“It’s a very, very simple amendment we will put forward,” he said at the time.
