As the reality of the risk of the community spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) hits The Bahamas, local companies in response have been making tough decisions. Real estate company Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty has decided to close its offices and cease the showing of properties, which is the lifeblood of its business. Telecommunications company Bahamas WiMax revealed yesterday that it will increase bandwidth to its residential customers for free and make its Wi-Fi hotspots free to the public.
Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty made its announcement in a statement released yesterday, which explained that its main office will close today and staff will work remotely.
“As of tomorrow, March 18 at 1 p.m., our main office in Nassau will be closed until further notice,” the statement revealed.
“Our administrative staff and agents will all continue to work via remote access in order to assist with your real estate needs. For the most part, our property showings will cease temporarily in order to protect our sellers, buyers and agents.
“Our team is thankful that in this high-tech age, we have creative ways to communicate with you by email, Skype, phone, virtual property tours, photos and video.
“Our appraisal team will continue to work remotely and will communicate any challenges this may create directly with their appraisal clients.
“While we don’t know when things will be back to normal, we feel confident that by implementing these steps, we can make a difference. We are looking at the bright side of things and look forward to spending quality time with our families. We are grateful to live in a place abundant with sunshine and fresh air. Our beaches provide an ideal environment to implement social distancing while enjoying the view.”
In the midst of Bahamians working remotely and some self-quarantining, Bahamas WiMax revealed yesterday that it will increase bandwidth to its residential customers for free for 30 days. During this time, the company will waive all late fees and make all its Wi-Fi hotspots free to the public.
Chief Executive Officer of Bahamas WiMax Matthew Carey said in a statement that it is now more important than ever for Bahamians to be able to keep in touch with their loved ones.
“Due to the unprecedented circumstances that The Bahamas now faces from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vitally important that Bahamians stay connected to the internet, whether it is for work education or to keep in touch with loved ones,” Carey said.
“As an internet service provider, it is equally important for us to be able to provide this enhanced service to our customers and the wider community at critical this time.”
