A 46-year-old man was on Friday remanded to prison after being accused of molesting and mistreating his stepdaughter.
The man’s name and address have been withheld in order to protect the identity of his accuser.
He faced charges of indecent assault, attempted unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent and cruelty to children when he appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain.
Prosecutors say the man began inappropriately touching the child in 2017 when she was seven years old.
He allegedly indecently assaulted the child again in 2019 when she was nine.
Additionally, he’s accused of attempting to have sex with his 13-year-old stepdaughter in March 2023.
The charges of child cruelty concern the alleged mistreatment of the minor between October 2017 and December 2018 and March 2023 and May 2023.
The man was not required to enter pleas to the charges and he was denied bail.
He returns to court on October 23.
