Man acquitted of burglary and assault with deadly weapon charges

A Supreme Court jury on Thursday acquitted a man accused of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutors alleged that Deangelo Holbert broke into Kevin Dean’s Soldier Road home and pointed an assault rifle at him on March 9, 2020.

Dean said the intruder then fled the house and drove off in a silver and brown Chevrolet Silverado truck.

He said that days later he saw the intruder and the truck while at a female friend’s home.

According to Dean, he learned Holbert’s name from his friend.

According to the evidence, Holbert had a relationship with Dean’s female friend.

Public defender Stanley Rolle suggested that Dean was interested in Holbert’s girlfriend and had concocted the story to get him out of the way.

Following a trial before Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson, the jury cleared Holbert of all charges.
